How To Sucessfully Request A Site Reconsideration

The latest in our SEMVideo series is a video from Google which gives viewers some tips on how to create a good reconsideration request.

What's a reconsideration request? Google often penalizes sites that violate the Google Webmaster Guidelines. Webmasters must fix these violations and then submit a reconsideration request to ask Google to stop penalizing the site.

Here is the video from Rachel Searles and Brian White from the Search Quality Team:

The main tip from the video is that it is a good idea to re-read the Google Webmaster Guidelines if you are unsure why you have been penalized before submitting your reconsideration request.

Rachel also mentions that you should include in your request all the changes that you have made to fix the problem, rather than just telling them that your site now follows the guidelines.

Brian said don't try and fool Google by submitting misleading information. This won't help your cause as there are actual human beings reviewing your request and if the information you provide is bad then they will simply disregard your request for reconsideration.

If you are having issues with Google penalizing your site, then I would strongly suggest taking 5 minutes from your day and watching the video.
